My Tuition Approach

Connect with Confidence

One of the guiding principles of all my teaching is that inspiring confidence in a subject is the most effective way of achieving positive change.

I have extensive experience working with both book-worms and reluctant readers, so whatever your child’s confidence level, and however they feel about English, I work to make every lesson dynamic and memorable: imbuing every lesson with enthusiasm, energy and excitement develops a connection to the subject, taps into a student’s innate abilities, and opens up their potential so that their learning journey is something they enjoy rather than endure.

Aim High

When I’m confident that a student has a strong foundational understanding of their curriculum stage, I guide them towards topics and ideas that are designed to challenge and extend the scope of their learning.

This has multiple benefits: it equips students with conviction and self-belief when they encounter more challenging scenarios, it introduces them to skills and ideas that exceed their Key Stage requirements so that their work stands out from their peers, and it provides transferrable skills for other essay-based and analytical subjects so that results improve across the board.

Teach to Learn

One of the best ways of consolidating learning is to explain your knowledge to others. This provides a fantastic opportunity to practise articulacy, clarity and recall. When I have guided a student through a topic, I will invite them to ‘teach it back’ and lead me through their understanding. This has proven to be both empowering and hugely effective in converting cold theory to real-life ability.

I also place emphasis on active learning, working through examples and practise questions wherever possible to apply knowledge in a dynamic way. This means that students begin building an active skill-set from day one.
